Biography
Jerome Hall entered the Society of Jesus in 1966, was ordained a presbyter in 1977 and took his final vows in 1982. He holds a doctorate in liturgical and sacramental theology as well as a master’s in vocal performance from the Catholic University of America. As a highlight of his liturgical musical career, Fr. Hall cantored at Mass on the National Mall during the papal visit to Washington, DC in 1979. He spent many years as a campus minister at both Georgetown University and the Peabody Conservatory. Fr. Hall also served as the artistic director for the Jesuit Music Project in Washington, DC, which brought together Georgetown students and professional musicians to perform classical sacred music in a liturgical setting. Recently, he spent five years teaching, presiding, preaching and directing retreats as an assistant professor at the Gregorian University in Rome. He has also served on the formation faculty of Theological College and as an adjunct professor at Catholic University.
Professional Activities
Fr. Hall continues to be actively involved in formation for seminarians and spiritual direction. He currently serves as the superior for the Jesuit community at the Loyola Blakefield School in Baltimore. For the last thirty years he has been engaged, especially through workshops and lectures, in the formation of liturgical ministers; he continues this work through the Leading from the Heart program at the Georgetown Center for Liturgy and through the Center's other programs for the continuing formation of the clergy. In addition, Fr. Hall serves as the convener of the Eucharistic Prayer Study Group of the North American Academy of Liturgy. He belongs to the North American Academy of Liturgy, the Association of Jesuit Liturgists and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians.
