Biography
James
A. Wallace was appointed to the faculty
in 1987, having taught homiletics at the Redemptorist seminary,
Mt. St. Alphonsus, in Esopus, New York, since 1973. During that
time he also taught preaching at Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining,
New York (1977-79), and at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington,
New Jersey (1978-81).
Professional Activities
He is currently involved in several grant projects for the improvement of preaching in the United States. He has served as president of the Academy of Homiletics (2005), president of the Catholic Association of Teachers of Homiletics (1992), and president of Religious Speech Communication Association (1981). He was co-editor of the New Theology Review (2002-2005), continues to serve as a member of the Scholarly Board of Przeglad Homiletyczny (Homiletic Review) of the Association of Polish Homiletics, and as a member of the board of the Catholic Coalition on Preaching.
He has taught in various diocesan deacon formation programs at St. Meinrad’s School of Theology, and is an annual presenter at the Vatican II Institute at St. Patrick’s Seminary, Menlo Park, CA. He has conducted preaching workshops for diocesan and religious priests and deacons at home and abroad, most recently in the Philippines, and Singapore. He is a member of the international and ecumenical Societas Homiletica.
He has conducted the Annual Preaching Symposium at St. Paul Seminary at St. Thomas University, St. Paul, Minnesota (2003), made presentations at the National Conference on Catholic Preaching in Philadelphia (2002), and has given the annual Marten Lecture in Preaching at St. Meinrad’s School of Theology (2000).

Recent publications include All Your Waves Swept Over Me, Looking for God in Natural Disasters (co-editor with Nancy DeFlon and contributor, 2007), Lift Up Your Hearts, Homilies and Reflections, Cycle A (2004), Cycle B (2005) and Cycle C (2006), (with Guerric DeBona and the late Robert Waznak), The Ministry of Lectors (English version, 2004; Spanish version, 2006), and Lift Up Your Hearts, The Homily on the Feasts and in the Rites (2002). His articles have appeared in New Theology Review, Worship, Preach, and Lectionary Homiletics. He is presently working on homily reflections for Living the Word for 2008-2009 (World Library Publications).
